This Patchwork Home Owes Its Look to a Book Club
“The owners of this updated carriage house gave me the best compliment of my career when they told me living here felt like a happy version of The Royal Tenenbaums,” says Chloe Warner, founder of Redmond Aldrich Design, of the home she recently completed in San Francisco. “The whole home has an East Coast decorating vibe . . . with a floral sofa and a needlepoint rug. We went for kind of granny chic.” This mash-up of references is indicative of the very unique relationship that Chloe and her Hillsborough clients have: Unlike most decorating situations, where the designer is pressed for time and constrained by finite things like a move-in date, Chloe got free rein. Welcome to the slow decorating movement.
